What connection does the company Compuserve have with gif’s?
CompuServe introduced the file format in 1987 to provide color images for their file downloading sites, replacing their RLE format that handled only black and white. They implemented (to much controversy later on) a very effective lossless compression algorithm that allowed the GIF format to produce quality images at lower file sizes.
Please explain image optimization for the Web?
Optimizing means balancing image size (so that it loads fast), while still maintaining the proper image quality. Specific image opimization depends upon the image format and the purpose of the image.
How does screen resolution affect a website?
The screen resolution setting of a user’s PC determines the amount of pixels visable on a computer screen. Because the size of monitors vary widely, as do the resolution settings, it is crucial that a web designer creates a site to be visible and usable by the widest number of users possible.
What does it mean to be Section 508 compliant?
The site in question meets the minimum requirement for usability by persons with disabilities (508 compliance is a requirement for government agency websites). This means things like using Alt tags on images for screen-reader applications for the blind or effective color use so that the colorblind can still navigate the site.
